So Jenna, this poem is about you fighting bigoted people on tumblr :D And it’s also awful because I’m tired and not good at writing poems.
She sits there looking at the screen,
Looking for things to amuse her,
When suddenly she spots an awful thing;
Verbal abuse on tumblr.
Her anger rises like a solar flare;
Fiery outrage at what she sees.
She asks herself “Do I dare?”
Then answering yes proceeds.
She thinks of a response and puts it to words,
Hands flying quick on her keyboard.
This kind of garbage that she abhors
Can not simply be ignored.
Her words fight for equality
And her righteous words ring true,
As her followers support her lovingly

Fun fact: radio stations (at least the ones around here) won’t play this song. They play an altered version where the line is “that’s fine, you won’t mind if I say”. Taylor, I generally like you, but when you are too offensive for COUNTRY RADIO, which is more religious than many churches I know, you’re doing it wrong.
She’s not homophobic as far as I know and this song isn’t either. This song should not be offensive for any reason other than maybe she’s being vindictive and that’s not nice.
If you read the lyrics or listen to the song, the context is a lying boyfriend that treated her like dirt and so she dumped him. The fact that she says “so go and tell your friends” implies that he’s already told her he’s going to do it. He’s already told her that he is going to try and spread lies about her to get people against her. So in retaliation, she’s going to tell all her friends that he is gay. So before everyone cries homophobia, let’s take a moment to understand WHY she is saying that and determine if it is actually offensive:
I think it’s obvious at this point that the ex boyfriend likes girls. And he hurt her. So she is doing something in retaliation to hurt him, by saying she is going to tell all her friends that he is gay. Why would she say this? So that he doesn’t have any chance of hooking up with any of her friends. Also, she says that “There’s nothing stopping me from going out with all your best friends”. We can see that she’s not saying being gay is wrong AT ALL. She is ONLY saying that so he does not have a shot with any of her friends.
If Taylor was gay and she was singing about an ex girlfriend, then the song would say that she’ll tell all her gal friends that her ex is straight. It would be the exact same thing, and I don’t think you will find any straight people that are offended by that.
